The Society was formed in 1992 to mark the 450th anniversary of the birth of Mary, the Queen of Scots. The aim is to promote the further study of her life and times. It is not an academic Society but a group of people who all share an interest in the Tudor and Stewart periods of history, and in particular, Mary. There are already branches throughout Great Britain where members can attend regular meetings and outings, and it is hoped to start up branches in other parts of Great Britain and overseas, where there are already members.
A Journal is produced three times a year and is circulated to all members. It contains interesting and sometimes little-known information about Mary, her courtiers, her people and her times. Correspondence and research are entered into; a sizeable library of books and archival material has been built up and is constantly being added to.
Throughout the year we have lectures on aspects of Mary's life and outings to places of Marian interest.
An Annual Gathering is held when members worldwide may attend to meet socially, hear an interesting speaker and enjoy lunch in the historical ambience of the venue.
New members are always welcome, not only from Great Britain but from any part of the world. If you have and interest in Mary Queen of Scots, through the Society you will be able to develop and expand that interest.
